sleep apnea undiagnosed
Sleep apnea is a common condition that affects more than 12 million people in the United States. Although the exact cause remains unclear, what is known is that the site of obstruction in most patients is the soft palate, including the area of the base of the tongue.
During the day, muscles in the region to keep the passage open and clear, but since there is no bone or cartilage in this area to maintain an open airway when a person with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) sleep, the muscles relax and the airway collapses.
In addition to disrupt sleep and cause disorientation and "fogginess" during waking hours, the dangers to health in general are many.
The main risk factors for OSA are:
Excessive Weight – The accumulation fat on the sides of the upper airway causing them to narrow and predisposed to closure when the muscles relax.
Age – Loss of muscle mass is a common consequence of aging, leaving the airway narrow and soft. Men have a higher risk of OSA.
Male Hormones – Testosterone can cause structural changes in the upper airway.
Other risk factors include: a chin … Enlarged tonsils and adenoids … The use of drugs that affect the central nervous system (CNS) such as alcohol, tranquilizers, etc … Smoking … Chronic nasal congestion … and various syndromes such as hypothyroidism, post-polio syndrome, neuromuscular disorders, Marfan syndrome and Down syndrome, to name a few. Although to date no concrete data to confirm this theory, also believes there is a genetic factor involved.
Signs and symptoms of OSA are many and varied and many are not openly care. (For example, sleep leads to such things as car accidents, moodiness, memory problems, depression and even impotence.)
Some Common signs that you may have OSA are:
Snoring – This is perhaps the most common symptom that obstructs the airways of a person, and the reporting that initially brings many undiagnosed OSA patients to their doctors for help. Not everyone who snores has sleep apnea, but if there are other signs, well, is a distinct possibility.
Excessive Daytime Sleepiness – Some people with OSA asleep while reading or watching television. Others experience powerful urges doze even in a stimulating environment, such as while driving or in business meetings – even while having sex!
Unrefreshing – Many patients with OSA complain of awakening the feeling that they had been up all night (usually have, in fact). So if you try to cool off with a nap, usually feel worse after the nap than before.
Sleepiness while depicting Driving – statistics that many car accidents are caused by drivers fell asleep, either driving or being too sleepy to be alert.
Morning Headaches – Frequent unexplained headaches are a common sign of OSA.
Frequent nighttime urination – Getting up to go to the bathroom several times at night can be caused by an event of apnea.
If your doctor diagnose OSA, then you will be relieved to know that sleep apnea CPAP machine will help and protection as soon as you start to use it.

Adults are increasingly aware of the dangers of this potentially destructive disease that can cause a variety of other serious ailments and diseases such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes resulting from obesity and poor memory retention. However, children may also be at risk for sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea or OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) is a sleep disorder suffered by 18 million Americans, most of whom are unaware they have a problem like 90 to 95% of patients remain undiagnosed. The night of the symptoms only manifest in snoring excessive, but also those with sleep apnea experience extreme fatigue during the day as a result of poor bedroom routine.
The condition develops as a result of poor air flow and low oxygen levels. The patient has several hundred short pauses in their breathing pattern at night, making them exhausted during the day. For adults, this causes traffic accidents, as many OSA patients fall asleep while driving. For children, sleep apnea causes lack of concentration and unsatisfactory performance.

obstructive sleep apnea and diabetes
Sleep apnea is a common disorder that can be severe in some cases. When a person suffers from sleep apnea, breathing will stop and get very shallow, while they are sleeping. With each pause in breathing, usually have a duration of twenty seconds or more. These pauses can occur twenty to thirty or more times per hour.
The most general form of sleep apnea is obstructive. This is sufficient when air can not flow into the lungs of a person through his mouth and nose even though they are trying to breathe. When this is the case, the amount of oxygen in the blood may decrease. Normal breathing and then start again with a loud snoring or choking sound.
When a person's sleep is disturbed at night, may mean that the next day may be difficult to overcome. This means you can be more difficult for the person to have a good job or school day due to lack of sleep they got the night before because to the constant disturbance of sleep. You need a good sleep to be fully rested and relaxed.
People who have to deal with apnea sleep are often snoring. This is not always true for everyone. Some people with sleep apnea do not even know who is snoring. Sleep apnea occurs most often in people who have more weight, however, there are many more thin people who have to take on this challenge as well.
There are a lot of people do not know they have sleep apnea. They do not realize that is why they do not feel rested in the morning. Usually the only way you notice this problem is by being loved one or family member who sees the signs at first hand while you are sleeping. This is the best way to see first hand what the problem is and why the person is very tired in the morning.
